Chris Ewing is the immediate past chairman of Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr and a director in the Corporate and Commercial practice. Chris has practiced in corporate law for more than 30 years and is recognised as the firm's leading merger and acquisition specialist. He acts for domestic and international clients and is adept at leading cross-border projects. He is recognised as an expert and leader in corporate law and corporate governance.
Chris is currently Chairman of DLA Piper Africa and is responsible for the relationships which the firm holds with its partner firms across Africa as well as for the continued development of DLA Piper Africa as well as the relationship between Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr and DLA Piper.
Chris began his career in 1970 in the finance department at South African Breweries. In 1974 he joined Cliffe Dekker (now Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr) as a candidate attorney, then as an associate until 1978 when he moved to Credit Guarantee Corporation as their legal adviser. Chris returned to Cliffe Dekker in 1979 as a director. He has since 2002 served either as Chief Executive Officer or Chairman of Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr or of its legacy firm, Cliffe Dekker Inc. In April 2014, Chris became Chairman of DLA Piper Africa and an Executive Consultant at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr.
