Knowledge Management

Leveraging what we know

In today's fast-changing global marketplace, we consider information and knowledge as critical resources.
In an environment where efficiency matters, Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr invest considerable time and resources in Information Management and Knowledge Management.

When access to knowledge is certain, fast and reliable, our lawyers benefit from quicker problem solving, less wasted time and exposure to diverse opinions. This ultimately enables us to improve the quality of service to our clients.
Being part of DLA Piper enables us to share in a wealth of expertise, experience, know-how and knowledge from across the globe.

Our Knowledge Management team supports lawyers in finding and retrieving the right answers from a wide range of systems, information sources and firm best practices. Knowledge Management puts the combined expertise of the firm at our lawyers’ fingertips.

Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr was one of the first South African law firms to appoint a director to the full time position of Knowledge Management. The exclusive focus of this position is disseminating information; facilitating and coordinating efforts to enhance our intellectual capital and facilitating continuous training and skills development programmes. We regard training of all staff members (support as well as professional staff) as a priority and have a comprehensive training and skills development programme in place.

Our Knowledge Management initiatives include, for example:

  • Advanced knowledge centres;
  • Local and international precedent and clause libraries;
  • Advanced legal research tools and systems;
  • A sophisticated document and email management system;
  • An international best practice repository;
  • Monitoring changes to law and market practice and keeping our lawyers and clients informed of important developments in the form of regular newsletters and seminars;
  • Transfer of skills and experience from senior professionals to younger lawyers and candidate attorneys;
  • Legal skills development programmes;
  • A formal, well-structured and comprehensive training programme for all staff members;
